The Lost Colony of Roanoke

The Lost Colony of Roanoke
In the wake of Sir Humphrey Gilbert's failed mission, Queen Elizabeth I renewed the patent for exploring North America, granting it to Sir Walter Raleigh, Gilbert's half brother on March 25, 1584. Raleigh used the patent to establish the Roanoke colony in 1586. Thus, England’s colonization of Virginia and North America had begun.
